Autism Awareness for Recreation Leaders

  • This course is available online.

The FREE online module provides introductory information about autism and supporting individuals with autism in recreation settings.  Learners are provided with four real life scenarios, and have the opportunity to practice recognizing behaviours associated with autism, watch videos of recreation professionals sharing their stories and learn a range of support strategies that are practical and easy to apply in the real world.  A certificate will be issued to all learners who complete the course.

The Manager of Training at Canucks Autism Network works closely with each group to create a customized live training experience that is a good match to the audience’s prior education and experience. Typically live workshops provide participants with a brief overview of autism and introduce a range of support strategies to support individuals with autism in recreation settings, along with a series of application exercises and video examples. Workshop audiences who have completed the online training prior to the course will be invited to submit scenarios they have experienced and will be introduced to a series of advanced behaviour support tools to address these complex scenarios.  In all cases, the Manager of Training will work with you to ensure that your group’s learning needs are met. Upon request, a certificate may be issued to all learners who complete the course.

The in-person training module is available at various lengths, ranging from 1.5 hours ($350) to 3 hours ($500). Email the Manager of Training at Canucks Autism Network or connect with them online.
