Fitness Registration Program
The BCRPA is a provincial, not-for-profit professional association that has provided educational opportunities, information and advocacy to the parks, recreation, physical activity, and culture sector for over 50 years.
Through its Fitness Registration Program, the BCRPA acts as a regulatory body by collaboratively developing, recognizing and promoting provincial and national standards for the training and registration of fitness leaders in BC. With over 5,400 registered fitness leaders the BCRPA is the largest fitness registry in Canada and has gained recognition as the standard against which the qualifications of a fitness leader may be measured.
Areas of registration include: Group Fitness, Aquatic Fitness, Pilates Fitness, Yoga Fitness, Weight Training, Personal Training and Osteofit. Registration fees automatically includes $2million of liability insurance valid for teaching anywhere in Canada (Personal Trainers must purchase their own policy).
As a member of the National Fitness Leadership Alliance (NFLA),registration with the BCRPA is transferable to other provinces across Canada.
In 2010, the BCRPA developed a business plan for the Fitness Registration Program. This document outlines our immediate, short term, long term and ongoing priorities and is the roadmap that we are following through to 2012.
Important Fitness Registration Program Policy Updates
The BCRPA reviews Fitness Registration Program policies and procedures on an ongoing basis, seeking ways to streamline the registration process in order to help make registration smoother for BCRPA fitness professionals without compromising the NFLA standards that are fundamental to the Fitness Registration Program.
As of December 20, 2011, the following two program changes have been implemented:
- Practicum Teaching Requirement Timeframe for New Leaders
- Renewal Dates for Expired Fitness Leaders (Less than 12 months expired)
How to become a BCRPA registered:
Fitness Leader (FL) - (Aquatic, Group, Osteofit, Pilates, Weight Training or Yoga)
